The Problem

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Earth Charter, we are organizing a fair of 20 Philadelphia area organizations who work on issues of global citizenship, ecological integrity, social and economic justice and peace, democracy and non violence. We are allowing these organizations to present to our audience of at least 200 people and then encouraging the audience members to donate money and become involved as a volunteer in at least one of these organizations. We will also be presenting information on the content and progress of the Earth Charter through a film and possible speaker. We hope that this event will stimulate people to volunteer on projects that service the Philadelphia community as well as the global community. Philadelphia is a city with great poverty and we hope that our attendees will be inspired to take action to alleviate the effects of that poverty as perscribed by the Earth Charter.

Plan of Action

I plan to execute this event on November 7th 2010. I have rented out a space from the University of Pennsylvania to host the event. I have contacted other students to create a short film which explains the contents of the Earth Charter and the last 10 years of the document. I have begun contacting local organizations/charities to attend the event an recruit audience members to volunteer. I have also solicited food and monetary donations for the event. I am also in negotiations to get a world musical performer or possible speaker on the topic.
