With the assistance of the University of Alabama, Eastwood Middle School is having their very first science fair. Students in professional societies such as A.S.M.E. and several local organizations are joining together to sponsor this event in hopes of increasing interest in the engineering and science fields in younger generations. By showing the middle school children how to apply different ideas to the science theorems covered in their curriculum, they will create successful projects to show at the end of the semester to judges and their families, with winners receiving savings bonds. Eastwood Middle School has approximately 900 students and is 79% minority with 65% of its students receiving free or reduced lunch. Hopefully with the assistance of the college mentors, these students will realize the importance of education and will pursue one after high school.
