The Problem

Poverty and Hunger. These two are interwoven and have created a very complex problem. The orphans are effected by struggling to develop and mature, both physically and mentally. The women in the village are left trying to care for these orphans, while they are not even living off of a dollar a day. There is a scarcity of resources, which does not allow for proper nutrition and mental development through education.

Plan of Action

Our plan of action is to work with our founder, Nicholas Ng'ang'a, and let him carry the operations out on the ground while we supply the necessary resources for him to further his work. Our first goal is to construct our operations center on the ground in Kenya. This would be a centralized location where we can feed children, organize educational seminars, and plan for community development projects. Once we have stability in the orphan feeding program, we will be expanding on to begin construction of a school, which will open up the doors for education of these children. Spring semester, 2011 will be focused on fundraising so that we can expand our work this coming summer when I lead a team of volunteers back to Kenya this coming summer. We have already help one benefit concert as a fundraiser and are in the planning stages of two more fundraisers, as well as going and speaking at fundraising events hosted by various churches and greek houses in Kansas. We already have 20 children sponsored on the feeding program and are continuing to search for more sponsors so that we can expand to include more children. There are currently 33 children attending the feeding program and would like to expand to include more orphans from the area. This summer when we go, we will be interacting with the people to meet their needs. We will not just be throwing money on the situation. Instead, we will be empowering individuals by creating opportunities for them. For orphans, we will provide meals so that they may attend schools and receive an education, which will continue to be a primary focus of the project.
