The Problem

Emeregency Food for Students strives to provide emeregency food money to college/university students. At the University of La Verne in California, some students have a meal plan of only 5 meals a week. They are on their own to find the other 16 meals. Other students do not have a meal plan at all and spend their money paying for rent, books, tuition, and all the other expenses tied into the college experience. Unbalanced eating habits contribute to eating disorders, lack of energy and concentration, and can ultimately hinder their learning process. We want to put an end to student hunger and eliminate the stress of not having enough money to eat. www.efsfoundation.com

Plan of Action

What have we done? EFS's bylaws were created by our founder Loren Rojas. He and our CFO Daniel Perez asked each of us to donate $50-$100 to fund all our application expenses with the state and IRS. We attend a weekly Farmers Market in the city of La Verne, California and ask for donations and raffle off donated tickets. What we want to do next: Eventually we want to contact local businesses within a 20 mile radius of the University of La Verne and ask for donations. After we have enough donations we want to contact local grocery stores and set up a money card (something like a gift card) that we can give to students so they can have money to buy groceries. Students will apply and if they are approved they can get the money cards along with pamphlets on how to use the money wisely. We hope that the food students buy with the emergency money cards will help students get the nutrition and energy they need to perform well in college and not have to stress out about not having food. Our ultimate goal is to not only help feed the future leaders at the University of La Verne, but to create chapters at other colleges and universities and help feed those leaders as well.
