This past summer I was involved in the founding of The Endurance Children’s Fund, a charity whose mission it is to raise money for children afflicted with cancer. My main function in the process was to design and create the charity’s website (www.endurancefund.org). The charity raises funds by recruiting sponsored athletes to participate in various endurance sporting events. My involvement with the charity has inspired me to commit to training for next year’s New York City Marathon. When my feet are pounding on the pavement and my heart is rapidly thumping during the seventh mile of an eight-mile run, I know that as much as I want to, I cannot quit. When the legs say, “Stop,” and the brain says, “Go,” go must prevail. I try to live by George Bernard Shaw’s philosophy: to seize opportunities to enjoy life while simultaneously contributing to society. “I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live.” George Bernard Shaw, 1907 –a quote from my website.
