The Problem

There is a growing obesity epidemic in teens and young adults with disabilities. There is a lack of information being presented to them in a way that they can comprehend and readily transfer into their everyday lives as they grow to be more independent and self reliant. On an individual level teens need this information to help themselves and on a larger scale; more people who are able to take care of themselves, are at a lower risk for obesity related secondary health related conditions, and feel connected to their communities will make for less financial burden to be places upon us all. Cincinnati Ohio has a divide between east and west sides of town. Teens with disabilities can develop more friendships both with and without disabilities and learn to create social networking to better promote their independence.

Plan of Action

At this point, last year my Teen Club was awesome and had a great time. Parents found that teens were more social, interested in new leisure activities, and were more likely to make healthier food choices in their lives. I am needed to find volunteers and money to help subsidize these activities teens find so beneficial.
