The Problem

We held this book drive in order to raise and collect books for those who could not afford or have lost books of their own. During Hurricane Katrina, many children in New Orleans lost their schools and a source of education. Hundreds of books were lost or destroyed, so in order to help restore this loss we have teamed up to participate in the Epic Book Drive. In addition to the loss of books in New Orleans, many children in our community have lost interest in picking up a book and reading. In this time and age children would rather watch television and play video games, so in addition to raising books for New Orleans we want to support and encourage reading in our neighborhood.

Plan of Action

Primarily, we set up collection boxes in our school classrooms and hoped for any donations. We checked on the boxes each day and got a few books but were not very successful at school. So instead we turned to our own donations, and by the end of the collection we had collected 18 boxes full of books, and even more but some were not allowed to be donated so we gave those to a local church. We have hopefully made a difference to the people in New Orleans and hope to make a difference in our own neighborhood.
