The Problem
Music is a very powerful and omnipresent figure in most people's lives. My university, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry is a relatively small school with heavy concentration in the biological sciences. Due to the tremendous focus on biological sciences, our options for other interests are minimal within our own school, so we must pursue those interests at ESF's sister school Syracuse University.
With the economy being how it is and the large SUNY budget cuts, the availability of these courses are becoming increasingly less. The musicians at SUNY ESF are underrepresented and so I am spearheading the formation of a music club to act as a medium for its scattered musicians to come together and continue playing music for the benefit of themselves and the student body by means of regular performances.
Plan of Action
I have advertised for the club and conducted a formal informational seminar regarding it. I have also recruited officers for the club, such as Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Public Relations Adviser. I am currently in the process of writing up the official constitution and bylaws for the music club. These will be submitted to the Undergraduate Student Association (the governing body) at the onset of Fall 2009 semester to be voted on. If the student government approves of this club, we will be in motion immediately. I have also secured a booth for my college's Activities Fair in the fall and another in October for the student-family gathering to further advertise the club to the student body, most importantly, the incoming freshmen.
