The Problem

Children all over the world fall vicim to violent crimes. One of the most violent crimes perpetrated against an innocent child is severe sexual and physical abuse. Boys and girls of all ages are violated everyday in ways unimaginable. The Children's Advocacy Center of the First Judicial District has made it its mission to to combat child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse by coordinating and providing services to children in a safe, caring environment. The Children's Advocacy Center covers four counties within the upper east tip of Tennessee. For the five women who work here, its not just a job, it is a passion. There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. - Maya Angelou

Plan of Action

There are those who know from the beginning what they want to do with their life and there are those who gratefully stumble upon it. I stumbled upon it. I began volunteering with the Children's Advocacy Center in the summer of 2005. From the beginning, it was my passion. I went from Volunteer to Intern to Education Coordinator to Forensic Interviewer. This past year the staff sat down as a team and just brainstormed. Our goal was to get the word out as creatively and as cheaply as possible. We collectively made this video with the kihd help of my husband. We have and are continuing to make an impact on our community and on many children's lives. When the day comes, when I change jobs, I'll still be an advocate and volunteer for these children no matter how old I get.
