The Problem

EWB-UCLA is currently helping a small community in Guatemala that does not have access to clean water. Members of the community, usually women and children, have to walk over a kilometer to collect contaminated water from the nearest river. Not only is this water a huge time commitment to collect, but it also subjects the community to unsanitary conditions and water-born disease.

Plan of Action

EWB-UCLA is working alongside members of this community to build rainwater collection systems, which will provide each family with enough clean water to last through the dry season. Our project has been successful since its start four years ago, and we hope to continue building rainwater collection systems with the community while maximizing the sustainability and efficiency of the project in the future.
