Eyes on Africa Foundation - Kids of Malawi Project

the problem:

The Eyes on Africa Foundation is a nonprofit started by Jeff Lakusta in September 2007. Since its creation, the organization has spread globally – Turkey, Wales, Scotland, Canada, etc – through youth involved in a “Campus Coordinator” system linking grades of all ages to the organization. Having raised over $100,000 in its two years of existence, EOAF sends annual groups of volunteers to Sub-Saharan Africa to deliver monetary and volunteer aid to the organizations in greatest need.
Campus coordinators at DePaul in Chicago have started a fund raising campaign to build a school in Malawi! The Kids of Malawi Project (KOMP) partners students across the world working for one goal – to provide an education for those without! KOMP is sponsoring the construction of a new schoolhouse for a remote village in Malawi, and their doing it “Piece by Piece.”
Every donation adds more pieces to the puzzles. Each puzzle represents a portion of the school needed to finish construction. For example, one puzzle represents the BRICKS, another, the BOARDS, etc.

why it's important:

The Eyes on Africa Foundation's goal is to bring aid to sub-Saharan Africa, but its goal has also become to show others that real, tangible change doesn't have to take a long time. It can be started by anyone of any age, and manifests itself in so many ways. There are an infinite number of ways to help others. What's important is trying.
KOMP’s school will provide more than 300 children with a stable location to be educated and discover their learning potential. Help us provide access to opportunities which so many of us benefit from without a second thought.

the plan of action:

FUNdraise! With different puzzles representing the different needs of our school’s construction, every puzzle piece will feature the signature of a donor. Once a puzzle is complete it will be on display to celebrate reaching one of the goals. Once all of the puzzles are pieced together, we will have reached our OVERALL goal – to build a school for the children of Malawi!
In partnership with “build-ON,” the Eyes on Africa Foundation will oversee construction and help sustain the school after construction is complete!

how you can get involved:

The Eyes on Africa Foundation has a "Campus Coordinators" system. This network of elementary, middle school, high school, and college aged student volunteers is the foundation of EOAF. Anyone can become a campus coordinator and help to promote EOAF projects, recruit volunteers, hold fundraisers, and just spread the word!
Help fundraise and promote KOMP; browse for other projects you might be interested in helping; or, start your own!
