See It

The Community Garden is open to the whole community. The area the garden is located in is surrounded by low-income families. The garden now provides a safe place to gather and grow fresh produce that is usually too expensive for them to purchase, and subsequently is eliminated from their diet. This increases the chance of diabetes, and becoming overweight and physically unfit in both children and adults. It is proven that when children grown their own food, they are more likely to eat that food. The surrounding area also has a high rate of drug and gang related activities due to the lack of positive activities. The garden provides a place where members of all ages can not only grow their own produce but can also learn from educational workshops from master gardeners and environmental staff from the Mission Resource Conservation District. The community know has the knowledge and the means to improve their dietary habits and overall health, for what is knowledge without action?
