Feed the Need Ionia!

the problem:

This summer we were able to help plant a Community Garden where the produce was donated to local food pantries. This taught us how much our local food pantries do to help the community. Some food pantries serve 15 families each week while others serve 80! They all need our help!

vital stats:

people impacted:

0

people involved:

65

why it's important:

Michigan is struggling with many people without jobs. Ionia has a lot of families who need help. I do not want my friends and family members to go hungry!

the plan of action:

Our local AM Radio Station (WION) and the United Way & Volunteer Connections is partnering to hold a food drive over Thanksgiving Weekend. They will be driving an RV around the county collecting food. The Ionia Kids Club members will collect food from friends, family and our neighbors and deliver it the WION RV when it is in Ionia. From there WION & the United Way will give food to 10 local food pantries throughout the county.

how you can get involved:

Anyone can drop off non-perishable food at ENRICH of Ionia County at 343 W Main St. in Ionia throughout November.

Ionia Kids Club is partnering with WION Radio to conduct the "Guilt- Free Food Drive" again in 2011! Our food drive will take place the weekend after Thanksgiving. Again we will be traveling throughout Ionia County in an RV set up with a mobile radio station.

At this time we are finalizing the Food-V pick up locations and recruiting volunteers to assist with this project.

One High School Member and 3 Elementary School Members from the Ionia Kids Club visited with WION,I 1430 staff to record sound bytes promoting the WION County-wide Food Drive. This just one of the many ways that Kids Club is partnering with this local business to help Feed the Need in Ionia.

Kids Club Members will also be taking part in a National Family Volunteer Day project this Saturday, Nov 21st. They are hosting a Friends & Family Brunch where they will be doing a service project for the local Women's Shelter and bringing canned goods to donate to the WION Food Drive.
