The Problem
The community I am trying to help is the local homeless people. My group and I are doing what we can to help clothe and feed the homeless. We see them all the time on the streets panhandling and we are trying to help them not have to and instead of money we bring them a meal to eat or clothes to keep them warm.
Plan of Action
The project evolved from a Leadership Class Assignment. The assignment was to either join a group or create one that will some how benefit the surrounding community. We were assigned groups at the beginning of the semester four others and I decided to help the immediate surrounding area by helping the homeless in some way. Because there is a very large homepless population in Pinellas County. The group came up with this idea to help feed and clothe the less fortunate in our local area. We get together make sandwhiches or some kind of meal that we can bring in front of the city hall and pass it out for about two hours on average. There are three designated clothing drop off rooms; mine and two others. I believe we have made a big impact on the homeless community. Also I think that we have made the impact of giving back. The group has been given help by many people in our life and we decided that we were going to give back to those who need it most. I know that they are very appreciative of everything we bring them. Whenever we are out in front of the city hall giving out our donations those who accept them are very thankful, for atleast a moment they put aside whatever feelings they may have and accept the help we are there to give them. The people we have grown close with have showered us with "thank you's", and other words and phrases of appreciation. Having done this multiple times the group that goes out there together regularly has made relationships with the people we talk to. We have made an impact on both their lives and ours. I have a wonderful time doing this it brings me happiness and a sense of well-being; being able to help those who's circumstances are less fortunate than mine own. Even though we are not getting them fully off of the street we are making the ride a little more enjoyable, with the even the small things such as simple conversation.
