Fields of Green

the problem:

This internship fair is serving the local DC area community by parring green businesses with students looking for internship positions. This is addressing the difficulty students are having finding jobs and providing them with training in various fields of study while teaching them about the importance of being green.

The Fields of Green internship fair not only helps students, but it also provides a great opportunity for businesses to use the power of students to grow their business and spread the green word.

why it's important:

This is important to me because I believe that education and integration of the green message (importance of preserving natural resources while minimizing energy usage and waste) into business and the economy is going to make the largest impact on society. This internship fair is a direct collaboration of education, economy and the green message.

At the fair there will not only be businesses offering internships, but also representatives from local government, colleges offering green majors and a panel of speakers ready to answer students questions about the hot new green job market.

We are working to educate the next generation of government officials, business leaders and teachers in order to preserve our planet for the generations to come.

the plan of action:

Fields of Green was originally started as a one time event; an internship fair to match students looking for experience with local green initiatives. When the idea first started to gain momentum, we realized its potential and have recently decided to keep going with Fields of Green as an ongoing project dedicated to planting the seeds of environmental responsibility in the minds and hearts of young adults.

Our plan is to keep our current website up and running with up to date internship opportunities as well as to hold events such as conferences and internship fairs to advocate green education and career choices.

The impact Fields of Green has made is already huge and continues to grow. We have the attention of hundreds of people in the area including government, educational institutions as well as local businesses and students.

We plan to continue to reach out to the young adults in our area through public outreach initiatives at schools and local organizations.

Fields of Green has evolved into an ongoing program! The fair went so well and we got such a great response that we are starting a documentary film series about the interns and their green experiences to inspire other students to get green internships.

Also, Fields of Green has had a political/economical impact. Over 100 of the internships represented at our internship fair were newly created internships! We inspired companies to create job positions that they didn't already have. Not only did we create jobs, we created green jobs for young adults. As a result of this, the non-profit organization got a grant for $16,000 for job creation!
