The Problem

Fighting For A Future is a project to give hope to a hurting world. This project is directed to help students, specifically at Happy Times Primary School in Kawempe, Uganda, have a chance to make it in life. Kawempe is a small town of Uganda where, as in much of the country, poverty has taken control. These children are faced with diseases, deceased parents, food shortages, and an overall lack of education. Children are born into a cycle of poverty, which few have the chance to escape. Fighting For A Future gives them hope to a solid education, which few in the community are able to achieve, opening a door of opportunity to a life they never believed was reachable.

Plan of Action

Fighting For A Future began in 2010, when funding started, in order to send the first volunteer to Uganda. Funds were raised through schools events such as fashion shows, concerts and miscellaneous fundraisers. Churches as well as friends and families also contributed to the cause. The funds were used to help provide food, school materials and building needs. Volunteers pay for their own living costs while in Uganda (which are very cheap compared to American standards). While teaching for one term, all of the P7 students(equivalent to an American 8th grader; a high education in Uganda) graduated, excluding one student who was too ill to take exams, and one student who at 14 years old was taken away to be married. Now that the students have a chance to be accepted into Universities, the fees are their next challenge. Fighting for a Future is an ongoing organization, committed to giving one generation of students a chance, allowing them to come back to their communities and keep the strong cycle going.
