Finding Your Song
the problem:
At the beginning of the school year, the local high school needed a piano accompaniast for their choirs. Upon hearing their need for help, I decided to offer what abilities I could. Because the school board is tight with the budget, it became a volunteer position. I go in and help every school day for five hours a day. I've attended multiple festivals and concerts with them as they've performed. This has required me to learn and study all the music outside of school hours. When it came time for the high school musical presentation of 'The Music Man', they again found themselves needing a pianist, so I volunteered to help. I have volunteered more than five hours a day, five days a week for the course of the school year, and I look forward to finishing it out.

150why it's important:
This project has been important to me from the beginning because it is a way that I can contribute to the lives and the people in my community. It makes me so happy to see and realize that I can make a difference-- that we all can make a difference. So many people have added something to my life at different times, this is just one small way I can say thank you.
the plan of action:
Every morning I show up at the school and ask the choir director what he would like done. What he says goes. I play the music he asks me to play when he wants me to play it. While I'm not being used I do secretarial work and organize the music files. I study and practice the music when I get home so that it can add to their performance during festivals and concerts, rather than detract. Without a pianist it would be more difficult for them to learn, perform, and progress.
