The Oakland, Illinois Family, Career, And Community Leaders of America Peer Educators are planning to hold a Fire Prevention Week at our elementary school in January 2008. We plan to get not only the students involved but the teachers as well. We will be working with the K-5 graders.
During this week, we will visit each classroom and talk to them about preventing fire and what to do in case of a fire. We spend some time going to the computer lap and playing games on the State Farm’s Smoke Detective website. They will be taught some valuable information that we have put together. Hopefully, they will also be able to learn about fire safety in their reading, music, and art time during the week. We will have a poster contest for K-2, and an essay/poem contest for 3-5. They will then on the last day have a big assembly. We hope to have State Farm and our Fire Department here to help us.
The students will be rewarded with some giveaways, prizes, and an award for participating during our Fire Prevention Week. We are very excited and can’t wait! We are putting a lot of work into this and are looking forward to teaching the children about fire safety.
