The Problem

Increasing nutritional awareness in low income families by helping provide community gardens in these communities.

Plan of Action

I co-led a trip of 12 University of Florida students to help the Inter-faith food shuttle with their community garden for one week during the winter. We built a hoop house to propagate crops, organize foods in the food bank, and deliver and retrieve resources from donors. We had to plan the service and housing sites long distance, but overall, we changed the lives of our volunteers and the people we met. By helping out, even for that short period of time, we were able to aid in the efficiency of the organization and allow them to provide Christmas dinners to many of the homeless and low-income families in the area.
