The Problem

Caring for Families who have a with a serious health illness who have to travel out of county or out of state to receive care. For this reason the Food for Families Program was started as a way to respond to needs expressed by families, caring for their children, who are unable to afford nourishing meals away from home. We provide onsite meal preparation onsite at the Ronald McDonald house at Stanford as well as deliver meals to families caring for their children in the hospital.

Plan of Action

We are a partner of the Ronald McDonald House, we will work to arrange a schedule of dates to prepare food, the days with the most need will be addressed first. Organize healthy meals and food donations for families needing it the most. Work with volunteers to help gather food donations to take with Sophies Heart as well as cook for the families as needed by the Ronald McDonald House and nearby Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Plan a Food Drive: Canned goods and nonperishable food items make great donations, and they make it easy for families to fix meals and snacks without worrying about grocery shopping. The food will be used to help feed the families staying at the hospital or local lodging while their loved ones receive medical treatment. Supper Club: Many of the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House and nearby hospitals do not have the time to shop or fix a nice home cooked dinner let alone have time to eat. We take the worry out of cooking dinner, volunteers for Sophies Heart bring in food and cook on-site so he families staying at the Ronald McDonald House can take time out and relax.
