Food For Thought

the problem:

I am trying to solve hunger by starting with my community. I am also trying to involve my school and teach my peers about the vast amount of people living without food, even in our area.

vital stats:

people impacted:

250

people involved:

30

why it's important:

It is important to me because I visited Mali, Africa this summer and saw many sad scenes such as malnourished children and sick adults, which made me want to start making a difference even if it is just local for now.

the plan of action:

I began by involving the whole school in a game with candy where the learned the frightening statistics about hunger in the United States. then, we had a school wide food drive as well as received money and food form local food stores. We used the money and the food to then cook lunch for a local shelter in our Culinary arts room. We fed 250 people that day and donated the rest of the food to the shelter.
