The Problem

Foster Skills is a non profit based in Boston that aims to help foster youth achieve success. We want to change their attitude of disillusionment – we want them to believe the American Dream: that anyone who decides to study hard and work hard can achieve life success.

Plan of Action

We teach foster youth life skills: emotional (how to deal with abandonment and neglect), technical (math, english, excel, powerpoint), and social (how to communicate effectively). We connect them with resources: learning material and (coming soon) business connections for internships. Finally, we raise awareness: less than half of foster youth graduate from high school, less than 3% go to college, and more than a third live in poverty after the age of 18. We completed a round of workshops last year, and we are starting a new round in the fall.
