The Problem
The Just Speak Self-Efficacy program is designed to reach adolescents, teens and young adults. It encourages teens and youth to think about their self-worth, their readiness for dating, and their knowledge about their own sexuality. The young adults participate in an intimate dating violence college forum, which opens the discussion about mutual respect and self-worth; as well as appropriate behavior. More information about our presence in the community can be found on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Just-Speak-Incorporated/115462631808538 or on our website at www.JustSpeak.org
Plan of Action
The Just Speak self-efficacy program begins with an anonymous self-assessment questionnaire. The questionnaire is discussed in detail including various names youth are taught for the body parts, their feelings about their body, appropriateness for dating, etc. The workshop is interactive, with non-judgmental feedback that promotes questions and increased discussion about sensitive topics. The purpose is to encourage an ongoing discussion with family members, counselors, caregivers, et cetera. The college forum promotes similar open discussion about dating violence and mutual respect. It is designed to encourage more discussion about emotions, respect among individuals who are dating.
