The Problem
The community I started working in was very diverse. The children in the area were segregating themselves from each other. I and some other volunteers persuaded these young people to play football and we, the volunteers, can use this sport as a teaching format to spread the understanding of teamwork, dedication to others, honor, responsibility, perseverance, and respect for one another.
Plan of Action
I volunteered at a local Junior high school as an after schools activities volunteer. That was three years ago and the progress in the community has been eye opening. As this group of kids was quite diverse and segregated three years ago, they still are diverse but have formed bonds and friendships with each other that have impacted their lives. As life moves on the friendships may not last but the IDEA’s that we put in their heads will live on forever.
