Gardens and Recycling

the problem:

Save Our School and Planet!!! S.O.S.P’s mission is to try and save the environment, save the school, and create awareness about environmental issues.

One way we plan to accomplish our mission is to make our school more environmental by planting trees and flowers around our local area (our school for example). Planting trees in your community really is one of the best things you can do for your environment- and the planet! Trees provide us and other living things with oxygen (without them we couldn’t breathe), a habitat for birds and other wildlife animals, reduce ozone levels, help prevent the greenhouse effect, and much more.

Another way SOSP is planning to help our school and the environment is to clean up trash and litter around the community. Litter is harmful to the environment because certain types of litter can cause fires, ruin landscape beauty, and won’t decompose. It can also attract pests and rodents, be eaten by animals, clog up drainage systems, and cost a lot of money to clean up. But by cleaning up trash in local areas, you’re helping save the world.

Recycling is a major way to help the environment. Recycling helps preserve natural resources. For example recycling every issue of the New York Times for one day would spare 75,000 trees!!! Plus, by using recycled paper, 60% of the water normally needed in paper manufacturing is saved. And by using recycled steel, there is a 40% water savings. Recycling also reduces pollution, litter, energy consumption, and need for landfills which produce unknown chemicals into the air.

Water Conservation is also another way SOSP is planning to help the environment. Saving water is good for the earth, your family, and your community. When you conserve water, you help the environment, save energy, and save money. You save water for fish and animals, help preserve drinking water supplies, and ease the burden on wastewater treatment plants—the less water you send down the drain, the less work these plants have to do to make water clean again. When you use water wisely you save energy. You save the energy that your water supplier uses to treat and move water to you, and the energy your family uses to heat your water. You save money because your family pays for the water you use. If you use less water, you’ll have more money left to spend on other things.

As you can see there are many ways to save the environment, save the school, and create awareness about environmental issues. Help us make this dream become a reality.
