My high school requires all seniors to complete a project before graduation. My project entails raising money to purchase prepaid gas cards for pediatric cancer patients and their families. I call my organization GAS UP which stands for Give A Sense of Unified Purpose. I will hold a raffle at school and every dollar earned will go toward the purchase of gas cards for patients at City of Hope, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and Loma Linda Medical Center.
I have dedicated myself to this project because my little brother had Ewing's Sarcoma, a type of pediatric cancer. My parents had to drive 140 miles roundtrip to City of Hope three times a week for labs and doctor visits in addition to surgeries, hospital stays, and one month of radiation treatments. This required many gallons of gas. My brother is currently doing well and no longer has frequent visits but many others do. Rising gas prices have placed a tremendous burden on many families battling with a disease in which timing and keeping appointments are keys to success.
I hope you consider giving a grant to my project. I am going to purchase an IPod with my own money and donate it for the raffle. I am also asking for raffle donations from other organizations such as professional sports teams. All money raised will go directly to purchase gas cards.
Thank you for your consideration.
