The Problem

In the Bangladeshi province of Pabna, there are currently only FOUR general hospitals and ONE community hospital. With a population of 2.1 million people, this means that there is one hospital per 450 000 people. With only 128 doctors, this amount of people is impossible to serve. Gaza is under Israeli blockade and its citizens are suffering immensely from the lack of food, water, electricity, medicines, and other basic life essentials. To compound this injustice, the Israeli government has chosen to bomb civilian sites leading to an alarmingly rising death toll.

Plan of Action

I contacted family and friends in Toronto to make international main dishes and dessert for the charity dinner. I wrote up a corporate sponsor letter over the summer of 2008 and got several businesses' support for the silent auction. All members of this club are also personally donating items for the silent auction. I then arranged for a venue and printed up tickets and posters. I advertised around my university and at several key locations in the community. I sent out an email notification/advertisement through various clubs on campus. A Facebook page was also set up to advertise the event. We are hoping to raise at least $5,000. We have already sold nearly 100 tickets for the event and interest is peaking.
