Girls today want advice, counseling, inspiration, and ideas from other girls. In other words, girls need someone to talk to!

Based in Atlanta, GA, Girl Talk is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization with chapters in 24 states reaching over 30,000 girls. Girl Talk is FREE to any female high school leader that truly wants to make a difference in her school and community. Girl Talk has grown thanks to thousands of volunteers and we are proud to say that we have reached all of these girls with less than $100,000. Girl Talk Founder Executive Director is the only employee and she works hard to get as many Atlanta businesses involved to donate thier services pro-bono to make donors' contributions go that much further.

How does Girl Talk work?

Girl Talk members participate in various activities and weekly discussions designed to help members build self-esteem and understand how to handle real-life situations. An anonymous question box is used to encourage communication between the girls within the chapter. The girls all agree on a safe place to keep the question box where it will be available to them throughout the week (a teacher’s classroom, school library, counselor’s office, etc.).

Middle school girls use the question box to confidentially share their concerns or raise questions to the group. Each Girl Talk Leader uses the submitted questions as a guide for choosing the topics of discussion for their weekly meetings. The anonymous exchange allows middle school girls to express themselves freely without the fear of embarrassment or being judged by other girls.

Girl Talk provides young teenagers with the emotional support and understanding that can only come from someone who has been in their shoes and understands what they are going through.

Girl Talk's Fuel for Inspiration Campaign

We at Girl Talk wanted to come up with a way to get thousands of individuals, businesses, and Girl Talk Girls to spring into action this Spring. So we've comceptualized a campaign that will not only help our Girl Talk Girls further thier education through our scholarship funds- but we will ask volunteers to commit to 5 hours of community service and inspire a Girl Talk Chapter in their comminuties. We have BIG goals, but that is nothing new for Girl Talk.  We always have! So please help fund the "start-up" for our "FFI" Campaign- so we can inspire all who'd like to get involved.

Girl Talk is an organization founded and fueled by the desire to mentor and inspire middle and high school girls. Celebrating its fifth year, Girl Talk reaches over 30,000 girls every week, inspiring, challenging and helping girls in a variety of ways- at no cost to them.

That’s why Girl Talk is excited to introduce our first fundraising campaign, Fuel for Inspiration. Your much needed support is the “fuel” that will allow us to continue growing and reaching out to the 12.6 million middle and high school girls in the United States that need our help. Our goal is to raise $1 million, generate 500,000 hours of community service, and have 500 active Girl Talk Chapters.

3 simple ways you can help make a difference and become a Friend of Girl Talk

·     Complete 5 hours of community service in honor of Girl Talk

It is completely up to you to decide what you do for your community service hours. We encourage you to find a charity that you feel connected to in some way. The following are just a few examples of various community service projects you may wish to consider:

·     cleaning a park

·     collecting much needed items including clothes, shoes, food, blankets, etc.

·     getting involved with Habitat for Humanity

·     cleaning up the side of the highways or roads

·     reading to the elderly in nursing homes

·     helping out a local fire or police department

·     helping out at a local library

·     tutoring developmentally disabled children for free

·     Raise $50

Girl Talk is a 100% volunteer-run organization and all money raised helps us to reach thousands of middle and high school girls across the country. Every dollar raised also helps fund college scholarships, support Chapters with the resources they need, provide funding for Web site development, enable new hires to help promote Girl Talk growth, and cover operational expenses as well. And, as always, all donations are 100% tax deductible.

Starting a new Girl Talk Chapter, or inspiring a high school girl to start a new Girl Talk Chapter, is easier than you might think. The first step to starting a new Girl Talk Chapter is to contact your local middle school guidance counselor and see if a Girl Talk Chapter already exists. If no Chapter exists, tell the guidance counselor what Girl Talk is all about and request a meeting with the school administration so you can get approval. If you’re no longer in high school, maybe you know a high school student you can help start a new Chapter with. If you really want to help, you could even fill the role of Girl Talk Advisor which is a very important responsibility and is key to the success of Girl Talk.

We truly believe, as do the girls who have benefited from Girl Talk, that our Fuel for Inspiration campaign is just the beginning of great things to come. With your help we’ll continue mentoring and inspiring the girls of today so they have a better chance at becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

Girl Talk was founded in 2002 by a then 15-year-old Haley Kilpatrick. Girl Talk is a student-to-student mentoring program that pairs middle school girls with high school girls who serve as mentors. Weekly meetings are held before or after school, during which the high school leader conducts valuable lessons that address issues middle school girls face every day. The high school leaders are there to listen and to offer support and guidance when needed. Girl Talk chapters are also involved in community service projects throughout the year. Girl Talk helps middle school girls build self-esteem, learn the importance of community service and most importantly, benefit from a valuable relationship with a high school Girl Talk mentor. In turn, the high school leaders gain a sense of accomplishment knowing they’ve helped make a difference in the lives of many young girls.

Designed to reach ALL middle school girls, Girl Talk welcomes non-traditional chapters as well. Girl Talk currently has home school chapters, athletic team chapters (dance teams, basketball teams, softball teams, etc.) youth groups, after school programs and Girl Scout groups. We also encourage high school girls to think outside the box if their school will not allow Girl Talk meetings to take place before or after school. Each Girl Talk chapter requires an adult advisor to be present at all Girl Talk chapter meetings and events. This person can be the middle or high school’s guidance counselor, a favorite teacher, a female coach, a mom, a female college student or even an aunt. The ideas are endless!
