the problem:
" Hey hottie, I want to tap that." It's a problem that just hasn't gone away and it's because of the objectification of women and its continuation through the media. Women more so than men are treated as objects, easy sex toys on television and because many women actresses sell themselves in that way on their shows young men are taking this to mean that women are easy. When a young man believes this and continues to believe it because of the media what happens when he becomes grown? He doesn't respect women and why should he? All his life he's seen them as slutty whores selling themselves short. Decades of womens' rights are going down the drain because of bands like Girlicious which just by its name claims to represent women. The band was formed on a tv show that eliminated members for ridiculous reasons. One girl was eliminated because she told the audience that she wanted a higher education, the judges decided this meant she wouldn't be a good band member. The band's songs such as Stupid Shit and Like Me all show the women in little to no clothing, they sing vulgar lyrics and once again support the idea that women are easy. In "Stupid Shit" the women wear what could be seen as a pathetic excuse for a school uniform ( a micro mini skirt that is purposely flapped up. and a boob hugging, mid driff showing blouse), if they're wearing school uniforms it sure doesn't look like they're going to school... In addition, they later take off these clothes in the middle of an ally with about 100 other women. Other countries already have an idea of what western women are like, and it seems that we keep proving them right. Why don't we prove them wrong? Why don't we allow women to be respected, allow men to be respectable and allow both to stop the degredation of an entire gender. Yes I am aware that there are so many other ways that genders are being degredated but this is the first step. There's always a way to get your foot in the door and this is our way to get there.

My project used previously typed letters and images to bring awareness to the community about this issue. Letters were later signed, petitions were signed and they will all be sent to the supporting record label Geffen Records expressing the feelings of all those that signed. These 200 some people are just a minority, just signatures that were gathered over a small period of time and more will be gathered after Geffen's first response or lack of response. These 200 people have boycotted all Geffen Record products as have those other 200 people that have had this issue brought to their attention.
the plan of action:
To create my project I first came up with a basic idea that allowed me to think of organizations to contact and support my cause. I then contacted the founder of MediaWatch and ex-model Ann Simonton. Her organization has decided to back up my project, I began typing letters to the Geffen Records and got them signed by various people. I later began a petition with signatures from all over the community. Ann Simonton sent letters to the supporting record label Geffen Records as well and we both educated the public on the topic by talking to them. We will be posting videos on youtube to further push our cause soon.
