why it's important:

This organization is important to me because I want to enable others to lift themselves out of poverty, and make a better life for their future. I want to change the way the world thinks about poverty, and help people realize that donating food or clothing does not solve poverty, but rather adds to the cycle of poverty. I believe the key to solving poverty is through education, and compensating farmers and artisans in developing nations fairly for their work.

the plan of action:

Global CaféNation is an earned income non-profit which aims to create a sustainable solution to poverty alleviation through the direct trade of coffee and artisan goods. Direct trade eliminates the most middlemen possible, in turn compensating farmers and artisans more for their work without pricing the items above fair trade products. With the profit from the sale of artisan goods and coffee, Global CaféNation will sponsor children in Tanzania through secondary education by donating 70% of profit to a scholarship fund. Global CaféNation plans to expand to sell coffee and artisan goods from other developing nations, in order to have an impact on poverty alleviation across the globe.

how you can get involved:

Others can help through donating time and expertise. During the first three years of operations, Global CaféNation does not plan to pay wages. This means that the organization is in need of volunteers to help with tasks such as order fulfillment, as well as industry experts to donate time and knowledge to help the organization grow.
