the problem:

Not only is our school old, but our school needs a lesson on the latest sustainability solutions. The Green Tiger Campaign at Chapel Hill High School is attempting to increase the eco-cred of the school while teaching students how to make change and have fun doing it.

why it's important:

As teenagers, we are inheriting a world of decay. Our national debt is growing, climate change is here, nuclear weapons are being debated and it's scary. For us, the Global Cooling project helps us learn leadership skills while making a difference in our lives. We hope that our efforts will have an impact on others to make change and improve our world.

the plan of action:

The Green Tiger Campaign has divided into several different projects that each address a different aspect of sustainability. We have a crew that takes care of the school garden, another that works on paper reduction and a third on fund raising to help fund these projects.
We have created the very first community garden in our school. We have created a paper reduction plan and are teaching teachers how they can save paper. We are also in the process of installing low-flow toilets as a pilot program in one of our bathrooms. We plan do accomplish many things this year. It will be awesome!

how you can get involved:

If you go to CHHS, join Green Tigers! If not, start your own sustainability club. Make a plan for tackling your school's problems and get a group of dedicated students together. Remember: Do not focus on the doom and gloom of global warming. Focus on the amazing difference you are making and have fun doing it.
