The Problem
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative has five partners - WHO, Gates Foundation, Rotary International, Unicef, and the CDC. We as volunteers travel to India to raise the profile of the campaign, immunize children, and develop ways to reach out to the community to get greater funding for GPEI. GPEI has helped remove polio from the world but it still exists in India, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Aghanistan. We're trying to immunize all the children each time to avoid any further outbreaks.
Plan of Action
To travel to India this February and see how technology can help the polio eradication initiative, using telemedicine and mobile telephony and take it a step further, by providing for those who already have the disease. Would it be possible to build an organization that focuses on just that? If so, then these ideas can easily be applied to other public health problems worldwide.
