The Problem
We help refugee youth, resettled through the worldwide network of the International Rescue Committee, to progress through education and soccer in their resttlement process. Our organization strives to provide a support system where the refugee youth can seek help and reassurance. Education for them here is difficult since there are language barriers, lack of funds, and support from their family since their parents are working to survive in a new country.
Plan of Action
Recently, we held a winter coat drive, since the refugees only have the clothes on their back when they arrive here from the airport and the drive was a huge success! Currently we are tutoring the refugees after school to help them with their homework and improve their GPA's. In April, we are going to hold an event at the Rutgers-Newark campus,it will be called "United Under One Beat" which promotes diversity and tolerance following the notion that we are all united under one heartbeat and musical beat. It will provide a chance for the rutgers students to celebrae for a god cause. Music will be played and the admissions fee will go directly for GED certification funds for the refugee youth and college scholarships. Also, Rutgers-Newark is the most diverse campus in the nation ranked by U.S. News, so it is an ideal place where an event will bring about people from all over the world. We are seeking funds to make this event a huge success. Also, the mayor of Newark will be in attendance, as well as other speakers.
