The Problem

Rwanda is a Sub-Saharan African nation that has been plagued with ethnic violence between the Tutsis and Hutus in the 1990s which culminated in a genocide of 800,000 Tutsis in addition to the exodus of approximately 150,000 Tutsis to neighboring countries. Now, though the Hutu-Tutsi conflict has diminished, the country still feels its effects in the form of ongoing poverty, a surfeit of parentless households, and a chronic shortage of opportunities for sustainable growth. Among these issues, poverty is the root cause of many of Rwanda's problems, as its systemic nature enables it to claim over 3 million lives in developing countries like Rwanda every year.

Plan of Action

Awareness to Action is selling goats to Westview High School's student body and members of the local community for $25 each and giving buyers a certificate of ownership and holiday greeting card for each goat, thus encouraging community members to engage in the spirit of philanthropy.

Project Updates

We have raised over $1700.89; that means over 68 goats for deserving children in Rwanda!
