Going GREEN- school xeroscaping and beautification
the problem:
We have 60% of our school property that is not landscaped or hardscaped. In a very windy area, sand and tumbleweed is a problem. We would to cover all of our non-landscaped areas to prevent erosion and to create a beautiful place to learn.

1,000why it's important:
This is important because we live in an area that is slowly developing. The areas around our school our xeroscaped and due to the recent construction of our school (5 years), we have many areas that vegetation have not grown back. We need to rectify this to prevent the horrible New Mexico winds from blowing sand into our students faces when they are outside playing or in our school outdoor learning classrooms.
the plan of action:
We want to landscape the areas with low-watering types of vegetation and to create sitting areas and paths for our students and community members. We will level the land, weed the area, and plant various native and low water needing plants to cover the open areas on our campus.
how you can get involved:
Others can help through donation of materials or volunteering their time to plant the vegetation that we will be able to purchase with opportunities like this one through DoSomething.
