The Problem

A little old museum that was built over 50 years ago, hidden behind the the Zoo next door, has been neglected and abused, unloved and virtually nonexsistent ever since it was created. The Gold Coast Railroad Museum (GCRM), a major part in the history of Miami, Florida, yet I bet if you ask anyone who lives near-by is they have ever visited, 9 out of 10 would say "what museum?" As a strong beleiver in educating everyone, young and old, on what is happening and has happened on the land you currently occupy, I found the GCRM to be a perfect opportunity to not only bring visitors the a non-profit organization, but show the importance of keeping history alive in South Florida.

Plan of Action

After hours of planning and research, the decision was made to re-build and re-paint a caboose in desprete need of assistance, paint a mural along one of the walls, and add color to a sandbox that looked unsafe for children. Gathering materials and volunteers took some time and effort, but as soon as everyone was up and ready to go, and after we got past the occasional mishaps and challenges along the way, everything went as smooth as can be.
