the problem:
We are trying to mitigate the genocide of Darfur and the effects it is having upon the Darfurian people. Due to rebel uprisings in the province of Darfur, the Sudanese government has hired a militia, called the "Janjaweed," to go into Darfurian villages and "root out" the rebel groups. However, this government funded militia has turned the situation into a genocide through mass murdering, raping, and pillage innocent Darfurian people. Because of this, 400,000 Darfurians have died, and upwards of 3,000,000 have been displaced from their homes. These displaced people generally end up residing in refugee camps along the borders of Chad, and that is where our money is sent. The money we raise goes to organizations through the Save Darfur Coalition, such as Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam America, for food, shelter and medical supplies for the people in the refugee camps. Some of our raised money also goes to the UN in order to press legal action, such as legislation in the United States, to end the genocide.

50why it's important:
This cause is important because there are so many innocent people being brutally killed and having their lives completely ruined. There is absolutely no reason to have another genocide occurring in the current global community, especially after the Holocaust and other genocides, such as in Rwanda. The people in Darfur are in such great need of assistance that I feel it is my duty to help them when nobody else will.
the plan of action:
Through fund-raising, I hope to mitigate the situation in Darfur enough to make it life sustaining. Also through advocacy efforts, I hope to enlighten the United States, and the world, of the current genocide and what can be done to stop it.
