The Problem

I am helping the community of persons who are disabled and live in poverty. They are discriminated against in transportation and employment, so this project fits two categories: poverty and discrimination. This community has high rates of isolation, depression and unemployment not because they are not qualified or trainable, or not interested in bettering their life, but because of stereotypes and bias. I am also interested in helping persons who are disabled to be healthy and fit.

Plan of Action

Once we have had 5-6 years of planning and implemnted our pilot project in IL, we will expand to other sites. This will initially impact 10,000 or more people, but there are about 54-60 million people who are disabled in this country, most live in poverty, and many are youth.
