The Problem

The Grey Ribbon Crusade 5K is a fun run that raises money and awarness for brain cancer. It also supports fitness and a healthy lifestyle. People of all ages attended the race, from new borns in strollers, to men and women well over their 70's. Cancer has become too common and nearly everyone has been touched by its effects.

Plan of Action

Shortly after his diagnosis, a group of his athletes, family, and friends decided to hold a race in his honor. The race would raise funds for brain cancer research and awarness in hopes that we can eliminate the number of people who have to go through the same thing we did. We contacted the local running association who generously donated their time and equipment for our race. We had to find a location large enough to hold the race and apply for a city permit. We got our insurance certificate in case of an accident through the Musella Foundation. For safety reasons we also reserved an on-location ambulance. We received over $1200 in monetary donations and also aquired 10 In-Kind sponsors. With this money, we were able to hire a DJ and purchase supplies for the race. On race day, we set up tents for the registration, the DJ, results, and refreshments. A golf cart led the race and followed the last runners. Medals were awarded at the end of the race for top finishers. The race brought former athletes and families from all over the United States back to support the cause. Everyone left with a sense of unity and optimism for the future.
