'Growth Garden'

Decisions Child Care Center, Inc., dba, Town & Country Day School, a one star Keystone Star facility, located in Harrisburg, PA, seeks to provide an environment designed to promote academic excellence, advance cultural equality and maximize learning potential. Town & Country Day School introduces positive recreational options and encourages respect, trust and unity to our students. Town & Country Day School would like to continue this tradition through a ‘Growth Garden’ that would breathe life back into the surrounding neighborhoods, raise awareness of eco-literacy, and promote eco-education. The garden would have organic foods, which help decrease childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles. Town & Country Day School’s ‘Growth Garden’ would allow students to gain a sense of community, positively use land and create a sustainable lifestyle for inner-city residents. The ‘Growth Garden’ will allow for eco-education, urban agriculture to emerge and create community involvement. Town & Country Day School’s ‘Growth Garden’ will harvest fruits and vegetables suitable for consumption and further educate our students about the powerful, positive effects of urban agriculture. Our ‘Growth Garden’ will help students become actively involved within the community through the donation of fruits and vegetables. We also plan to plant flowers as well. We hope the community will volunteer and be just as excited about breathing life back into the community, as much as we are. Town & Country will be hosting a “Green Family” essay contest. Families will be eligible to write a 50 to a 100-word essay on how they are “going green.” The winning family will be crowned the “Green Family” for one-year.
