The Problem
Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes—one child every 5 seconds. Across the world, 923 million people are hungry. The problem of hunger in the U.S. reaches far beyond the homeless. Some 35.5 million people in the United States, including 12.6 million children, do not have access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Some of these individuals rely on emergency food sources and some experience hunger, illness, and death.
We are asking for our community's support in helping to alleviate suffering from hunger in the world, and hunger in our own communities, by taking part in the Halloween Hunger Concert—a student-organized charity concert that will focus on the growing hunger epidemic in the United States. The event will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 3:00 P.M. until 12:00 A.M. at Grimsley High School.
Plan of Action
First, we gathered a group of young individuals who were interested in helping plan this Hunger Charity Concert.
Then, we held a meeting where we outlined our purpose and brainstormed creative ideas and activities for this event.
Next, we created a budget sheet and came up with a solid plan to get prepared for this event.
Then, we assigned tasks to each individual to help make the carity concert possible.
Then, through word of mouth and facebook and other way of communication, we talked about the purpose and goals of the hunger charity concert in order to gain more support and volunteers.
Next, we got some bands that were willing to play for this concert for charity - in return for advertising them and allowing them to gain more exposure.
Then, we got supplies and made calls to local stores & shops to see if they were willing to donate anything (such as food, stationnery, craft items, tables & chairs, etc.) to help us out.
Our next steps are sending out flyers and advertising through various means (such as radio, local news, press release, word of mouth, facebook, etc.) to get more people from our community to come to this event.
Finally, we are going to make sure this event runs smoothly and donate the money and food we raise to Central Children's Home of NC(a local children's orphanage) to help in the fight against hunger & poverty.
Last, but not least, we will count our impact and evaluate our project to see what further steps we can take to continue in helping this cause.
