We have submitted our our final report on the project grant. We are pleased to say that we have sucessfully helped a louisville shelter for abused women and children. Thank you!!
Hand in Hand
the problem:
This project is designed to help abused childern between the ages 4-9 who are living in the Center for Women and Families in Louisville, Kentucky. Our project mission is to help these children renew their creative spirt by working with them with arts and crafts during their stay at the center.

6why it's important:
Acording to the director of children's activites at the Center for Women and Families, arts and crafts are a big part of healing from abusive realationships, especially during the period these shattered families are seeking the shelter's assitance. These children need to find ways to realese the anger and saddness that these abusive relationships brought. When children are living in an abusive enviroment, oppurtunites to express their creativity are limited. During their stay at the center, arts and crafts allow children to express themselves in ways not possible otherwise.
the plan of action:
Five children in my neighborhood who are ages 9-13 have voluntered to help me work with the children staying at the center. Now that we have the volunteers to make the project happen, we need supplies. We intend to bulid teams of 2 volunteers each that will alternately work with the children at the shelter.
how you can get involved:
Other children can help by joining our club. We are looking for kids who live in happy homes and want to help others less fortunate.
project updates:
Last week i (2ctheocean) recieved a call from dosomething to tell me that my club had recieved a youth 2 youth grant for this project. Thanks Dosomething! I'll write back soon!!!

Thanks!
Oh, I forgot to tell you at school...
You can bring a friend to the meeting (one, please or my mom will get mad).
I love this idea! Is there any way that I could help? I live an hour away from Louisville and would be happy to help at any time!
Hanna Moore
Hanna,
Sure, there are a ton ways you can help!
I started by contacting the center for information on helping their children's center(hint: there website is www.thecenteronline.org).
Recently we won a youth 2 youth grant and are currently using the money to purchase art supplies for the center's children :) You can view this at the grant alumni section
You can also start volenteering at the center with forty hours of training(that's something I'm afraid we can't do, because of our group age range).
Hope this helps,
2ctheocean
