The Problem

The Hand Up Youth Food Pantry works to eliminate hunger and provide healthy food to people in need. Hunger is a reality for 1 in 7 Americans in the country, and childhood obesity rates are even higher due to lack of nutrition. With the economic pressure, hunger is becoming not only homeless people on the streets holding signs, but it also includes working middle class families whose money isn't enough to pay for all their basic needs- food, housing, transportation, bills, healthcare, education, etc. Something needs to be done.

Plan of Action

In the creation of Hand Up, a group of high school teens formed and started the pantry. We have monthly meetings where we discuss courses of action. These teens run clubs at over 12 different high schools all over the county and run food drives and fundraisers. We also run volunteers at food distributions and in the pantry, and our effort has affected thousands of people with the tens of thousands lbs of food that we distribute.
