Happy when healthy will have weekly meetings with high school girls and middle school girls to discuss their issues, questions, and comments about their bodies and self esteem. Meetings will allow them to talk openly about their emotions and thoughs about their weight. Information on how to have a healthy body image will be discussed and exercises on how to strenghten self esteem will be conducted. Discussions on how the media and society project female body image will also be discussed as well as how closer relationships such as families and friends affect a girls view on her body image. Each week will have a different topic on things such as aneroxia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, obesity, eating healthy, being active, and overrall happiness. The girls can bring in articles on the topic of the week and discuss them with the group and get feedback. Videos on self esteem, eating disorders, and happiness will also be viewed during weekly meanings. A box called "Eat this" will be a box for girls to fill to release their negative thoughts about themselves and have them "digested". The box will be emptied at the the end of the final session for the girls to see how many issues each and every girl has about her body and fully reflect on the experience.
The meetings will be held at my high school in a classroom or the library for one hour. The meetings will be supervised by a female teacher or adult. Their will be a president, a vice president, co-chairmen from the highschool as well. One sponsor from the feeding middle school will also be offered to inform the middle school girls of meeting information and discuss ideas within the middle school. Healthy refreshments such as water, fruits, and vegetables will be served to help girls see that such foods are truly beneficial. Also the last meeting will hold a field trip to a local eating disorder recovery clinic to give the girls an up close view of what a can come of body issues.
