On Sunday, July 29th, Harley-Davidson of Atlanta hosted a bike ride to raise money for Breast Cancer. I work in our Motorclothes department, and on that day I was weaving in and out of masses of Harley riders, who were enjoying the day and making a difference. As I was working, God gave me a vision of standing up and speaking to these people. I thought He wanted me to speak immediately, so naturally, I became a nervous wreck and wondered what to do! Trying to find someone to help me, I called my faithful momma, who prayed for my peace and God's will to be done. I talked to a girl I was working with about it. I then found some Christian Bikers who also prayed for me and then headed out as fast as they could. (I had asked them if they would help me...) The swarms of riders left, as did the pressure of the situation, and I had the time to think and ask God about what He wanted me to do. Over the next several weeks, I asked managers, customers, and employees their opinions of a Sunday Worship service. Some nonchalantly quipped "Well I don't see why not," while some were excited and wished me the best. I never got "no" for an answer. I kept praying, but left the idea alone for a while until I got the opportunity to speak to Mr. Chris Houghton, one of the store owners. Not only did he approve of the service, but he mentioned a woman who had asked him about a Christian biker group around the Atlanta area! "WOW GOD!" I don't know what I expected, but I didn't think God would give me that much favor with everyone I asked. On the way home from work that day, I prayed and wrote down ideas, excited and ready to get the thing started. After that, the ball was rolling. My mom encouraged me and prayed. My dad is an amazing project organizer, so he helped me outline the service. Melissa Crawford, who started Second Saturday for the Second Coming services, gave me advice. My parents and I sat down to late night dinner at Waffle House, playing with names for the Sunday Worship. (G.E.A.R., Sunday Biker Bible Study, H.O.G.S., whew there were some funny ones...) I shopped for flyer paper and scrapbook materials, running into a preacher's daughter who said she would tell him about S.W.A.P. Several people at the Harley store wanted to come and some biker church leaders offered to help! God kept sending more and more encouragement, excitement, and affirmation as the days flew by. October 7th, the first Sunday of the month, smoothly fit as the first service. It was also the day after a huge Dyno Drag competition at our dealership, so many people got the news about S.W.A.P! Speakers, food, pavilion set-up, timing, advertising, even music--all of it fell into place. I couldn't have asked for more for the service, even more people. It was the perfect first Sunday. Our music was lead, unintentionally, by Dorothy Jones, an alto with a powerful voice who got us all singing and worshiping our Lord. The testimony was casually given by Jerry Crowe, a humble and fun guy who has seen a lot of mess in his life and is watching God turn everything around. Joe Berry gave the lesson, his first official one, on the basics of salvation and freedom from guilt. He had just completed lay speaking classes the week before! He was powerful and confident, thought-provoking and funny. Last but not least, Janvier Williams, my intercessor momma, prayed over our speakers and started our service with a welcome smile and a prayer. We will be continuing this awesome offering to the Lord every first Sunday of the month, provided the time, leadership and His continued favor. I hope you can stop by and worship Him with us!
