The Problem
We are trying to prevent negative and risky behaviors among youth in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community by providing opportunities for area high school students to be civically engaged and actively contributing to the community.
Plan of Action
Youth Council meets 2-4 hours every week to plan projects and activities. Youth participants determine needs within the community and figure out ways to address those needs. Students will plan one community service project each month, and will engage in leadership development activities, community service, and positive fun.
Youth Council students are documenting their summer experience through different media, including video, photos, and creative writing exercises. At the end of the summer, students will have a "Presentation Night," where they will share the stories of their Summer Youth Council Experience with the larger community.
