Harrogate bookstation is much like a library but on a smaller scale and is ran completely by volunteers. We currently have around 2200 books including over 500 children's books. We have 10 volunteers to help maintain the bookstation. We are currently only open on Saturdays, but are going to open at least one day during the week beginning at the beginning of the year.
We are located in a small town that does not have easy access to books and computers and began this project in hopes that we can help the people of our area enjoy the books we have available to them. This project has been in the making for eight years, but has really taken root this year when I became involved. On opening day, we had over 45 people sign up for a library card and over 30 books were checked out. Many more have come recently and also signed up for a library card. We are impacting the community in a positive way by having a place where people can easily come and check out and read their favorite books.
