Help In Haiti
the problem:
I gathered toys and assorted children's items to send to an orphanage in Haiti. I also involved my schools' National Honors Society in the cause. They raised awareness and attemepted to help out as well. I sent care packages consisting of bubbles, coloring books, crayons, toys, playdough, and other small items. I also sold shirts at my school to raise money for the cause.

1why it's important:
I did a great deal of research on the conditions in Haiti. It was earth shattering to learn about how much the people of Haiti struggle everyday. It is a learning experience that will stick with me forever and has inspired me to do more for others, and less for myself.
the plan of action:
My plan was to raise money from other sources to purchase gifts for the Haitian orphans. That was not very sucessful, as I hoped it would be, so I ended up buying almost all of it myself. It was worth it though, it made me feel like I was doing more as a person. I hope I made the children happy. I hope that I made them feel like they have a happy childhood and something to be thankfull for!
how you can get involved:
Yes others can help! Even the tinest bit makes a difference and dropping even a second of your time for someone who needs help will always make you feel like a part of something great!

I think it is so great that you donated on your own even when others didn't join in the way you had wanted. Why don't you check out teensforjeans.com to get ideas on how to run a successful drive in your school. Just collect toys instead of jeans!
