The Problem
Many families are losing their homes due to the tough economy. This means many of our classmates are living in motels, with relatives, at shelters, and in even cars. Kids and teens going through hard times have to face going to school with barely anything at all. Through this project, I am trying solve the lack of basic items (such as clothes, school supplies, and toys) for kids, teens, and their families in my community.
Plan of Action
My plan of action is to unite with my community to gather items for these families and youth in need.
1. Run a 2 1/2 week drive within my neighborhood for gently used clothing and shoes. - DONE. Collected: 920 items.
2. Run a drive for clothing and basic items through my church. - DONE. Collected: 2,000 items.
3. Clean out your closet. You love that sweater you bought last winter, but you know it doesn't fit anymore, so just think about the kid that needs it right now and donate it. Ask your parents and siblings to donate clothes they don't wear anymore, too. DONE - Collect: 52 items.
4. Take the much needed donations to local schools, families, and organizations to provide for teens and families in need. - DONE.
