1why it's important:
I have a passion for this because I have grown up with all types of animals. I have always had at least one dog at a time. Whenever I am out walking in my neighborhood or driving around and I see a dog roaming around, looking for his home or master, my heart drops. I think how could someone dump a poor innocent animal on the side of a street when all he wants to do is please you. He may make you mad at times but that is no reason to throw him away. He then has no food, water, shelter, toys, or love. It is a slow painful death. I cannot stand to watch it happen. It breaks my heart.
the plan of action:
When I was thirteen I was taking a walk with my friend, Erika. At the beginning of our walk this depressed Bassett Hound that looked to be black and tan slowly dragged herself up to me. I really did not think anything of it. Once our walk was over with around thirty minutes later she followed me back to my house. I then realized she was homeless and needed food and water. Once she was satisfied I took her to my backyard. My aunt came over to see the dog I rescued. She ended up taking her home. When she bathed her, she found out that she was white with tan. The black was all ticks, fleas, and blood. Ever since then I have fed and watered homeless animals. I have either taken them home to keep for myself so I know they will get a lot of care and love, or I will take them to Second Chance just to get them off the street.
My family recently found a Husky mix. She was extremely skinny. You could see her ribs and everything else. A week after we took her in, she got distempur. She lost even more weight and the vet said there was a 23 percent chance of survival. After three dreadful horrifing weeks she was finally in recovery to being the seven month old puppy we all knew and loved. I do not want any dog to have to go through what either one of those dogs went through. Fleas, ticks, or distempur they all kill. Do you want your dog to go through that?
how you can get involved:
Others can help simply by putting some food or water outside when you see an animal that needs your help. It does not have to be dog or cat food. It can be anything like what you ate for lunch. If you are really feeling generous you can drive that animal to Second Chance. They are handled with loving care there as well.
